Company Type Guidance
SECR Reporting for Quoted Companies
Definition
Companies whose equity share capital has been listed on the London Stock Exchange, or on another European Economic Area or recognised stock exchange.
Where to Report
Directors' Report (part of annual accounts)
Requirements
- Annual greenhouse gas emissions report (Scope 1 and 2)
- Intensity ratio
- Methodology disclosure
- Energy efficiency measures narrative
- Previous year comparative figures (after first year)
Specific Rules
Quoted companies have been subject to mandatory carbon reporting since 2013 (before SECR expanded to other entities). They must report global emissions, not just UK.
Exemptions
- Low energy users (<40MWh) must state this but don't calculate emissions
- Companies in their first year of listing have modified requirements
Common Pitfalls
- Only reporting UK emissions instead of global
- Not including the full Directors' Report disclosure
- Forgetting intensity ratio
- Missing comparative figures after first year
